Shortcuts in Model Inversion Attacks and Defenses
Fengfei Yu (Computer Science-CST, Year 4) Supervisor: Dr. Bo Han (Department of Computer Science, HKBU)
Throughout my eight-week research period, I gained valuable insights and practical skills that have significantly contributed to both my professional and personal development. I refined my technical abilities, particularly in Linux, Python, and LaTeX, through real-world applications in research and tool development. Synthesizing complex information from academic papers into clear, concise 4 presentations for my supervisors helped me develop a critical eye for evaluating research methodologies. This experience not only enhanced my analytical thinking but also improved my ability to communicate complex ideas effectively—an essential skill for both academic success and my future career in research.
Additionally, my exploration of shortcut learning uncovered a profound interest in the deficiencies and limitations within the field of machine learning. This newfound passion has ignited a desire to propose solutions that can enhance the security and robustness of the field. This enthusiasm and curiosity represent the most significant takeaway from my summer research experience.
Most importantly, this research experience has deepened my interest in research and solidified my commitment to pursuing a career in academia. The challenges I encountered and the knowledge I gained have strengthened my resolve to contribute meaningfully to the academic community and advance research in this field.
