Faculty of Science Overseas Research Scholarship Scheme for Outstanding Students in KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden
I was lucky to be qualified for the research extension and to receive the scholarship. After the completion of the research extension, when I look back, I have realized a few things. The most important of which is to understand that the computer languages and parsing that we take as granted are actually derivation of a lot of research and understanding of how to accomplish complex mathematical and logical calculations. Before the research extension, I had almost no idea on how research methods are performed in a working environment. I learnt a lot about the research methodologies, approach, checkpoints and achievements in a short time span. This was only possible because I was out of my comfort zone and exposed to the surrounding where research was dominantly the workplace nature. Being an undergraduate student, the best part about research extension is to experience it. To learn how rigorous research methods are applied, to know the approach to perform research and to expose oneself to the scientific discoveries and problems existing in the conventional computer systems that we use. Experiencing research made me realize that I want to pursue a PhD in later stage of my life since I enjoyed the activity while I got to learn a lot. Last but not the least, I liked the lab I was sent to; everyone was cheerful and charming.
